Russia

Hello,

Three new galleries are online. Russia!

My journey started from Moscow, the capital of Russian Federation and some sort of country within a country. Some russians say that there is no life outside Moscow. And this could be true as you certainly wouldn't like living in russian villages. After that I went to St. Petersburg, the second, northern capital of Russia. If Moscow is monumental, St. Petersburg has a lot in common with European cities and has nice architecture. Finally it was Kazan'. Third largest city in Russia.

Russia is the country of contrasts. One can find a small grocery shop decorated with sculptures, marble and paintings. Sometimes one can find court entrances in Moscow with arches four stories high. Moscow subway is the monument of architecture: every station has its own peculiarity and are decorated with marble, mosaics, chandeliers and sculptures. St. Petersburg and Kazan' subway are nice to look at too though they are not that impressive. Moscow edifices of the soviet period are monumental, decorated with roman columns, towers and bas-reliefs. Russian churches are extremely beautiful, some are completely in gold, some are decorated with multiple sorts of marble and murals. There is even one all covered with mosaics till ceiling. Not far from St. Petersburg there is a tsar village. Village! The palace has more than fifty rooms, half of which are in gold. There is even amber chamber - unique in the world. There is another palace situated on the seashore where highly decorated fountains with gold statues run through the garden-park to the sea. Impressive! And last but not least some people eat red caviar and drink Soviet Champagne.)

People are very particular too. From the exterior their look is not welcoming. I have noticed this moreover in Moscow. People are dressed in black and this gives a strange look in winter where everything is in black and white. I have seen some individuals drink a bottle of beer in public transport in the morning.) But when we start to know them better they are highly cultured and intelligent, laugh a lot, act nice and are hospitable.

There are a lot of things that can impress tourists. For instance the food is quite different from european and represents a mixture of russian, ukrainian cuisine and cuisine from middle east. Sushi bars are very popular right now in Russia. Tourism is not developed. There is not much written with latin characters. St. Petersburg has a better developed tourism system. Millions of tourists are attracted by its beautiful channels, much closer to Europe and is home of Hermitage one of the nicest museums in the world. In the area one can find a lot of royal palaces and palaces of other well known people. I have visited one in which Rasputin was killed. Outside the capitals it is very difficult to travel without a guide.

Presently I am in Germany and exploring Europe. More galleries to come!)
